mac netbookMy latest article for The Apple Blog covers my thoughts on the lack of an Apple netbook, and why I don’t think we’ll ever see one from Apple.

I’ve actually grown quite tired of hearing about sub $500 laptops from people who probably have no idea what that $500 gets them (or doesn’t, as the case may be).

Most Mac users don’t want a stripped-down, barely usable laptop – no matter what the price is. The MacBook Air is a powerful, light-weight laptop and gives you everything you need at half the weight of most laptops. If you think you need a “netbook,” think again!

GD USA Magazine

GD USA Magazine

If you happen to be a designer, and you happen to have a subscription to GD USA (Graphic Design USA) magazine, I’m quoted in an article in their 2009 Annual Print Survey issue.

On page 48 of the June 2009 issue, I’m quoted in a section covering the importance of choosing the best paper for your print jobs. The entire issue covers various aspects of the printing industry as a whole, as well as some trends beginning to form.

By the way, GD USA is a fantastic magazine for the paper sample inserts alone!

Janet, Kian and I had one heck of a busy week, with out-of-town relatives visiting, my nephew’s birthday, Father’s Day, job interviews and a host of items on our “to do” list. We’re pretty much spent any spare minute sleeping.

Zzzzzzzz!

Zzzzzzzz!

We’re getting back up to speed this week - hopefully we’ll have more interesting news to share soon.

InBflat - a musical/video mashup

InBflat - a musical/video mashup

A colleague came across this site and I thought it was too cool not to share. It’s called InBFlat, and it’s a mashup of YouTube videos containing various musical instruments and spoken word. You play some or all of the videos, in any order to create a pretty cool musical composition. Check it out.

As a designer, one of the most annoying things I hear from potential clients is the rather insulting excuses and cons when it comes to negotiating prices. Rather than explain it all, watch this video. This is literally what I hear from some people. Please, don’t be these people.

aps_cooliris-logoiPhoto is perfectly capable of displaying your photos as a slideshow or one at a time. But you’re limited to a flat display that doesn’t exactly “wow” anyone.

With one simple download, you can view your iPhoto collection on a visually stunning 3D wall, right in your web browser.

In my review at The Apple Blog, I show you how you can use the Cooliris plugin for Safari or Firefox (Windows or Mac) to view images contained in your iPhoto library, or anywhere else on your computer.

I was giving Microsoft’s new search engine, bing, a try this afternoon and decided to search for my name to see what would come up.

The fourth image in the list was a photo of me from the About page on my main site. Unfortunately, I was stunned when I looked at the second image in the list to find out that I died at the age of 54 in 1880. I hope I had a nice funeral. If anyone attended, please let me know how it went.

There’s simply nothing like a smile to brighten a rainy day!

Janet and I have been kept busy with work lately, but Kian brings us back to reality and reminds us what’s important with days like this!

I’m now writing for The Apple Blog, a site written for Mac users by Mac users, covering a wide-range of Apple-related topics. I’ll primarily be writing application reviews and general commentary on Apple and the Mac.

The Apple Blog adds to my existing writing gigs at Macworld, TheGraphicMac.com, and CreativeBits.org. I never imagined that my hobby would turn into real work…
